At the 50 Winters Later Concert held at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake Iowa on Feb. 2 2009, it was exactly 50 years to the day of the last concert of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper before they died in a plane crash that night. The Big Bopper's son, JP Richardson, Jr., performed some of his father's hits. This clip is an emotional one, as he finally gets to take home his father's briefcase from the Surf Ballroom, five decades to the day later, as he performs "Chantilly Lace".

I love this song, Buddy, Ritchie, and The Big Bopper may have been before my time but I have listened to music from all of them and I love them all though I must say that Buddy Holly is my favorite. They all died too young, many wonder what they would have been had they lived. Does anyone know what the The Big Bopper Jr. died from?

I saw them perform in Dubuque, Iowa several years ago. It was like stepping back in a time machine. Great performances, great music, that will always live.

He looks exactly like his father. I think its amazing how much he tried to keep his fathers memory alive. It sure is amazing how that survived the crash. Rip Big Bopper Sr. & Big Bopper Jr.! Wish I got to meet Jr.

American Pie should not be the theme song. The memory song should be "The Three Bells by Tommy Dee. A more appropriate song. I always thought that "American Pie" The day the music died was very over rated. Anyone else Agree?
