I remember as a teen, I couldn't wait to play this song for my mother, a classical singer-musician. She admired Streisand, but when I played this, she sat speechless for some minutes, tears streaming down her face. It was and remains one of the most stunning pop songs ever recorded and one of my most cherished memories of sharing a sublime musical moment with my mother.

Saw her in Funny Girl and I have the vinyl - that's how old I am. I never tire of this song. It is the one song I feel I have perfected lip-synching! This gives me goose bumps. I can only imagine the thrill it must give her to emit that sound from her throat.

Starting at about 2:18, on the word "same" -- that is just absolutely sublime! A little piece of heaven descends on that one word -- well, the whole song is awesome from beginning to end, but her phrasing, and that pristine, "bell-like" upper register gives me chills every time! A true torch song for her!

Noe, you captured this particular track perfectly. I am not a fan of the later Streisand -- far too much belting, too many histrionics -- but early Streisand can be exquisite. This is my all-time favorite of her songs. Her power is untouchable here, yet there's no bellowing; and the "Nothing, nothing, nothing" line just grabs hold of me and will not let go. The Costa arrangement is more than worthy of her performance. I love the spot where the French horns sound almost out of control as they crescendo -- is that a blooper? -- just as she's getting ready to wind up the song. It sounds as if even the traditionally stodgy horn players are completely caught up in her performance. I could cry every time I hear this.

This song exists in a separate dimension from the one that you and I inhabit. Listening to it, we enter a special stratum of reality, loosening binds that keep us tethered to everyday life and quotidian concerns. The singularly dramatic power of Barbra's voice and Don Costa's orchestral arrangement shatter all expectations. "Nothing, nothing, nothing is the same." Every single time.

That voice. There was never one like it before, not since, nor will there ever be again. Period. My favorite voice of all time.
