It's beautiful. It hooked me within the first ten seconds of hearing it on the advert.It won't replace the original. Some more gentle instrumentation allows Alison Moyet's gorgeous vocals to wash over you with newness, though some of the chord progressions are surprising and are harder to take for it. Perhaps retaining more of Vince Clarke's synth would have been better, but as a reworking of a classic, I think it stands well as an additional way to experience the music and the lyrics, giving more meaning and investing more emotion to that. Goosebumps and watery eyes for me. Yazoo's back catalogue is too small so it's great for something to add to that.

Color me crazy but I believe that "Upstairs at Eric's" is absolutely one of the greatest recordings of all time. Pure & Absolute Genius! Nothing compares to it ~ It stands alone in its time period because of her incredibly soulful & emotional voice coupled with that cold electronic background . . . "I before E" WOW!!!!! ASTONISHING!!!!! With all of the ease with which technology now provides us NOBODY ~ NOBODY can match this! What a brilliant combination of amazing talent. I will listen to it as long as I live ~ I believe that "Winter Kills" would have been a FAR, FAR better choice for her here with an orchestra (just my opinion) Thank You Yazoo <3
