See comments below this track was not on Happy planet. It was the B side to the single far side of Crazy.I liked WOV 78-83 and 84-88. But AP also wrote and composed (eg this great track)SR was a great lyric writer and singer. but The other band members (The Moreland Bros and Chas Gray composed all the band's early music. rip MM, CG

This was on the back of their Aussie tour. They were incredible live. Andy copped a lot of shit. At the gig in Sydney there were dickheads calling out "We love Stan" -- it was fucking embarrassing. I had to tell 'em to shut the fuck up. As much as I love Stan, Andy was a perfect choice as a replacement and, frankly, better. Sorry purists.

Sounds like A STRANGE DAY by the Cure.

That’s great, I just wish the audio/video quality was better. :-)

To me, I see it more as a parallel story to "Call of the West." If you take a look of the majority of WOV material, you can see this is not the only instance where they revisit these chords. But I am by no means saying this is a negative thing - in fact, WOV manages to make their sound so unique, that it's more of a signature than anything else. You can't mistake it. They will never be matched!

Agreed. Glad I don't see any replies here slamming you because it's a valid observation -- both musically and lyrically they're revisiting the same chords and territory. Still, I wouldn't use the word "re-hash." More like second wave of an assault. Plus, for lack of a better term this is "catchier" or more energetic, and I find the lyrics to be equally punchy in syncopation and meaning. Call of the West is a contemplative and airy tune by comparison.

Absolutely stunning. The intensity in Andy's face and vocals is just breathtaking.

@marehtseira, Agreed, based on the general theme of the verses. But the tune itself is obviously much more aggressive. An entirely different mood.

Wonderful upload of one of the few songs which are really good on "happy planet".. and it's live!!!!! But does this song need a drummer? If i hadn't seen Ned on drums I would have thought they used a drum machine.

The song just seems like a re-hash of the title track of "Call Of The West" to me.

To "badasssalsa:" I saw WOV in 1/86 in NYC & the line-up had already changed. The show was FANTASTIC!!! Some people hate Andy & prefer Stan, etc. but I like both, in their way, because BOTH contributed to a different WOV sound.

WOW! Thanks for posting this. I never new of Andy Prieboy untill 1991 when he toured with Concrete Blonde. I wish I would have known of them in the late 80's. I knew Wall Of Voodoo, just not their incredibly talented new frontman. Not taking anything away from the brilliant Stan Ridgway.
