William S. Burroughs ( (San Luis, Misuri, 5 de febrer de 1914 - Lawrence, Kansas, 2 d'agost de 1997, escriptor) va aparèixer, amb altres, a la portada en grup de Srgt. Peapper's dels Beatles premiada als Grammy de 1967. Burroughs va nàixer dins una família acomodada. El seu avi va inventar una màquina de sumar que seria l'origen de la companyia Burroughs Adding Machines. Amb periodes autodestructius en la seva biografia reflectides en algunes de les seves obres, influí en altres manifestacions artístiques de tipus contracultural, incloent-hi el cinema experimental i certs tipus de música, com la música industrial. Les seves primeres publicacions s'engloben dins de la Generació beat, grup d'intel·lectuals i artistes nord-americans que van definir i donar forma a la cultura després de la Segona Guerra Mundial. Va ingressar a l'«American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters» l'any 1984. La seva manera d'escriure, especialment el seu ús de la tècnica cut-up (collages narratius sense perdre el sentit d'allò narrat) , ha repercutit i influït en la forma d'escriure de músics com David Bowie, Patti Smith i Kurt Cobain. #cultura
