i would love to be better

i would love to be free

i would love to be perfect

when you look at me

but instead i'm still crying

yes instead i'm still lying

sad to say i'm still trying

not to be me

when i see all the weakness

that i turned into sickness

i still think i can slide

just fine on the ice

it's not easy to be honest

sometimes i'm just astonished

how hard it can be to be true

[CHORUS:]

why do i lie?

is it just to get by

if i give up my lines

will i die?

if fortunes are favored

then i am in labor

and i'm trying so hard

to leave lying behind

i don't want to be hazy

i don't think that i'm crazy

but i've had some moments

where i am not sure

and if you can forgive me

for just being human

then i will try harder

to keep my words pure

i could be on the border

it could be a disorder

honestly i think

that i can come clean

and all of my stories might even be boring

if i can tell you

what they all mean

[CHORUS]

What does it mean, "If fortunes are favored, than I am in labor"?

Poetry set to magic? Actually, these are lyrics set conspicuously close to the melody of Earth, Wind, & Fire's classic 'Fantasy'. It struck me as oddly familiar the very first time I heard it on the 'Good Will Hunting' soundtrack. Then it hit me..that's 'Fantasy'! Someone else happened to walk in & made the same connection; the lyrics, incidentally, don't move me as I find it takes waaay more effort to lie than to be true to your Self. Whosoever weaves a web of lies lives in a self-made prison.

I think good poetry dares ask questions outloud the rest of us would, but we're too afraid...and so when we find someone willing we connect with them--relieved someone dared.

high art has never been about popularity. these lyrics are poetry set to magic; the music connects with those of us who need to hear it. don't like luscious jackson? fine, go 'way and stay the fuck outta my way.

You realize they got the rub back then because LJ's drummer was the Beastie's first drummer, right?

Wow I've owned (and liked) Fever In Fever Out since it came out and just hit me that this song sounds a lot like Earth Wind and Fire's song "Fantasy". Weird...

@royalnaz1 Seriously - are you 9 years old? You think Luscious Jackson was a one-hit wonder, and that this is typical and boring? God f*cking d*mn, people like you are ASTOUNDINGLY depressing in your utter simple-minded idiocy.

@royalnaz1 Luscious Jackson is far from a one hit wonder, they were pretty popular in the 90's and have a cult following. What you would consider boring many others would consider good song writing. Good bands write good songs, you dont need to overcomplexify things to write something that moves people.. The Beatles or Bob Dylan for instance. I shouldn't even give you any attention because its obvious from your page & your comments on there that you regularly go around youtube trolling videos.
