A song taken directly from the book of Job about the bigness and the sovereignty of God, with His tenderness and attention to small things also. Our God is great. I created this video from a bunch of sources (none of the images came from me), and I uploaded it to promote Ghost Ship's new album and because we're going to sing it in church. This video has nothing to do with Mars Hill Music or Ghost Ship. Please head over to http://www.marshillmusic.com to purchase their album "The Good King".

Part 1:

I said...

G

God, I do not understand this world

Em

Everything is dying and broken

C.........................................G

Why do I see nothing but suffering

God, I'm asking could this be your plan

Sin has taken hold of this whole land

Will you not say anything else to me

Part 2:

1.

He said. . .

G

Where were you the day that I measured

Em

Sunk the base and stretched the line over

C...........................................................G

All the the earth and carved out its cornerstone

Where were you the day that I spoke and

Told the sun to split the night open

Called the morning dawn with its light to show

2:

Who shut in the ocean with stone doors

Marked the reach of tides on those new shores

On the day the waves rose and first broke forth

Have you seen the springs of that great sea

Walked the caverns carved in the black deep

Through the gates of darkness there on its floor

3:

Have you seen the armory I hold

Snow and hail are stacked up in silos

For the times of trouble and war and strife

Can you raise your voice to the storm cloud

Would the thunder answer and ring out

Does the lightning ask you where it should strike

4:

Who has cleft a channel for torrents

Rain to sprout the desert with forests

In the wilderness that my hand has filled

Can you hunt the prey for young Lions

Can you loose the cords of Orion

Is this whole world bending beneath your will

Outro:

D........................................C

I spoke of things I did not understand

...................................D

Things too wonderful for me

......................................C

Although I had no right to ask

..........................................G

My God knelt and answered me

It's been over a year since I looked at this video. Quite a bit has happened in my life since then, and watching the video I became quite emotional again. God is indeed sovereign in all things, and we cast all our cares on Him (well, we should), because He alone is reliable and trustworthy to care for His children. Our God is the One who breathed out the stars, and we would stand in judgement over Him?! The hubris of man can be stunning. May God bless each of you and have mercy on you as He continues to uphold the universe by the Word of His power (Hebrews 1:3).

My dads cousin was a very religious person and she died in a car accident last week and this played at the end of her funeral so I love this song but it also brings back bad memories

The tale of a man broken under the heel of a tyrant. He asks why his lord is so cruel, then in response the lord shouts down and intimidates the man with a show of might. The man meekly withdraws his question and, like a battered spouse, blames himself for the abuse he suffers at the hands of his capricious and uncaring lord. Its a beautiful and tragic song.

I absolutey love this song. My youth pastor played this before the preaching. I loved everything about it! And his teaching was great too! About how even though people have scripture to "prove" what they are saying doesn't make it right! They can be leaving a part out or make it seem like it's saying something when it's not and saying something totally different but they do that so it makes it seem like what they are saying is true. So in other words you really shouldn't take someone's word for it! You need to go to the bible YOURSELF and make sure it's what God says. Even if it's someone you trust or a pastor and a dear friend! The truth is they may not be at the same spiritual level as you.

They showed they showed this video in high school bible study. I had to remind myself to breath afterwards. LOL. I wanted to comment on a few lines. First the part about creating earth, I'm a huge star trek fan, so I understand to a mint degree how big space is, God SPOKE that all into existence. Wow! Next this part: "Can you raise your voice to the storm cloud? Would the thunder answer and ring out? Does the lightning ask you where it should strike?" We see weather as something totally uncontrollable, all we can do is try to protect ourselves. As humans we try to control everything, weather is so powerful that we, the "all mighty" humans can't even tame. That being said, Lightning asks GOD where it should strike! Amazing! Finally I love this line "Can you loose the cords of Orion?" The first image that came to my mind was a child letting go of balloons. Just like that, God could release the stars. From the California sky, Orion is small, faint, dim. We forget that those are stars, most bigger than our own Sun. And God, in all his power could release them like balloons! This song is so simple and yet so beautiful. next time you look at the stars or watch something like star trek remember this, "He also made the stars." Genesis 1:16. Have a great Lords day!

this is so aspiring and powerful and what we as Christians need to heed each day of our lives. When are we going to understand the power, might, authority and sovereignty of a God who CHOSE us. I have shared this on my wordpress blog Eternity Seeker This is the kind of video that deserves a million hits.. well done! Keep going.

Wow. I still get emotional over this song, and I made the video! Thank you God that you chose to answer us. Thank you God that we do not have power over you. Thank you God that you break into our lives and rescue us when we don't deserve it. Help us to revere you God, help us to honour you and love you more each day. Help us to look to you for our hope and strength. Help us to not be idiots. Help us to love our wives the way we should. Help us to apply the Gospel in all things. Thank you God.

Hi Amanda, the chords are in the description field. The YouTube description field doesn't allow the spacing to be correct unfortunately, but the chord changes are pretty easy to work out. Each chord change is at the beginning of each line except the last one in each 3-line paragraph which is on the last syllable. At the end of the song the chord changes are on "spoke", after "understand", after "me", after "ask", then on the last "me". Hope that helps ...
