This was incredibly well-stated. Granted, their sound may have been slightly altered at this point, but "Damage in Your Heart", "Haunt You Every Day", "Pardon Me", "Perfect Situation", and even "The Other Way" were tracks where Rivers was most definitely trying to put out his emotion.

Red also failed from a commercial standpoint. Their fortune as a mainstream act has been declining recently (as will happen with transparently mainstream-minded bands) - that audience is shrinking as the 'indie' one who loves Blue and Pinkerton is continuing to grow. I think Rivers knows this, so it'll be interesting to see what he and the boys come out with next. Could be a serious attempt at another classic, or another desperate pining for chart success yet again.

How does the band that made this song go on to make something like Raditude? Thinking about current Weezer is just sort of depressing. I'd like to imagine there is some alternate universe where Pinkerton wasn't initially panned (causing Rivers Cuomo's meltdown) and Weezer kept on making amazing music.
