Weather Report was founded in 1970 by musicians who had met whilst playing with Miles Davis. This Montreux Festival show from 1976 follows on from the release of their album "Black Market" but features the line-up that would release their most famous and successful album "Heavy Weather" in 1977. Previously only available as a bootleg of a TV broadcast, this new DVD release is fully authorized and has been restored to its full length.

I Weather Report sono stati uno dei gruppi jazz fusion più significativi degli anni settanta e ottanta.La band nacque fra la fine degli anni sessanta e i primi anni settanta da uno spin-off di un gruppo di musicisti che ruotavano intorno a Miles Davis. Il nucleo stabile del gruppo è stato costituito dal pianista Joe Zawinul e dal sassofonista Wayne Shorter, mentre gli altri musicisti variavano quasi ad ogni album. L'avvicendamento di musicisti portò all'ingresso nel gruppo del bassista Jaco Pastorius. Fu con Jaco che il gruppo raggiunse la maggiore notorietà, grazie al classico standard fusion Birdland, dall'album Heavy Weather nel 1977.Weather Report - Live at Montreux 1976Questo concerto dei mitici Weather Report, registrato al Montreux Jazz Festival nel 1976, segue il loro album "Black Market" ma con la formazione che pubblicò nel 1977 l'album "Heavy Weather".
