California

I do what I have to

You just look away

Strip away my sadness

Take away my clothes and then there's who?

When I have to I walk in paper shoes

No more looking backwards

No more knowing things

Standing at the edge my

Meeting you was long overdue

If I have to I'll make do with the blues

I want to feel the rain stop falling

I need a second chance

And join the flow, the rush of gold

In California

I want to feel the rain stop falling

Take my second chance

I'll cross this land

And then I'll stand in California

The wealthy getting richer,

Poor have ceased to dream

Soon they'll come to hating,

Hating what they think they've got to choose

If I have to

I make do with the blues

This is a magnificent song/film and it has moved me in a way that Colin despite his undeniable genius hasn't since 'Sweetest Smile' did back in 86/87. I was fortunate enough to meet Black and his charming mother nearly a decade ago when he was doing a mighty fine job of being a troubador. We spoke of Jacques Brel, Bob Dylan, Radiohead and Rain Tree Crow. I have to admit that I was just another journalist to Colin but his wit, depth and charm were greatly appreciated. Karl Hainer

With a voice like liquid gold, Colin is probably the greatest singer/ songwriter of his genre to ever have come out of the UK............and yet is still largely unrecognised. Lucky us, to appreciate his incredible talent. I look forward to his next gig.... wherever it is.
