Jeannie Needs A Shooter: Written by Warren Zevon and Bruce Springsteen, 1980

I was born down by the river where the dirty water flows

And the cold wind cut through me, it cut right through my clothes

And the anger and the yearning, like fever in my veins

Set the fire burning

She came down from Knightstown with her hands hard from the line

From the first time I laid eyes on her

I knew that she'd be mine

Her father was a lawman, he swore he'd shoot me dead

'Cause he knew I wanted Jeannie and I'd have her like I said

Jeannie needs a shooter

Shooter like me

Jeannie needs a shooter

Shooter on her side

Jeannie needs a shooter

We met down by the river, on the final day in May

And when I leaned down to kiss her, she did not turn away

I drew out all my money and together we did vow

To leave that very evening and get away somehow

Jeannie needs a shooter

Shooter like me

Jeannie needs a shooter

Shooter on her side

Jeannie needs a shooter

The night was cold and rainy down by the riverside

I was riding hard to meet her when a shot rang out behind

As I lay there in the darkness with a pistol by my side

Jeannie and her father rode off into the night

Jeannie needs a shooter

I don't know why but his announcing his peril and watching it on TV really made me feel for him and I suppose related to it in some way. I've always like his music and covered some of it myself. Definitely a different dude.

Correct. WZ was stroking the NJ crowd. Note that when WZ let it be known he was dying, Springsteen paid tribute to him - but he chose "My Ride's Here," not the song he was credited as co-writing.

I was lucky if I could move off the couch to get more munchies when stoned. These guys were stoned and performed at this level??? DAMN!

Geez, I remember going to so many show at the "Capitol Theater" in Passaic, NJ. Sometimes, my friends and I would "hitch" a ride. I must be "old". But, if that's the price I have to pay for being the right age at the right time to watch Zevon, Springsteen, Frampton, Crosby-Stills-Nash and Young, and SO many other dynamite bands in their prime, I'll pay it ... with interest. I'm "pushing 50" now, but I remember my teens and 20's like they were yesterday. It still makes me smile,
