All my life this, I’m blessed. It’s how I learned the things pops never spoke of, but we knew.

Reminds me of when I was a little kid and the series was first run on tv back in the late 50's. My older brother was into it so much, he recorded the series on an old reel to reel tape recorder. He had the sound track albums too and I grew up listening to it over and over. What a change between then and now where anytime I please I can throw the dvd's in the player and watch it all over again. Back then, no VCRs or ANYTHING

I was eleven when this series first ran. As the last of 13 kids, I thought then, and still do, of the first four of us, army infantry, marine lieutenant, army combat medic, navy destroyer escort seaman, all in the Pacific theater, all sons of immigrant parents, our mom just passed and me and pa watching this. I'm here and I'm there. Peace.

I first heard this in Oliver Stone's "Nixon". It was when Al Haig and Kissinger walk in Lincoln's Room and they see Nixon listening on this on a record.

I was 7 when I first heard (and saw) the music written by this new NBC documentary. It made such an impression on me: imagine, music written to describe something VISUAL. Then, not many years later, I heard Sunset from Ferde Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite. But it was Vic at Sea that set me on the path toward life-long musical appreciation. And I told Richard Rogers that in a letter in '79.

I remember telling anyone who would listen when I was in Boot in San Diego that they should be using this music for the marching bands

How ironic that my late dad was on oxygen near the end of his life and unable to attend, as my daughter and her band mates in orchestra during high school played this and several other Victory At Sea songs. Miss You, Dad.

at the 1:04 minute mark Richard Rodgers is describing by music a U.S. Navy convey running into a typhoon and then slowly getting through it into calmer seas. Simply amazing how he matched music to the segments of the Victory At Sea tv documentary....
