I hate superlatives, but this was one of the most magnificent performances at one of the best music shows I've ever seen and I saw The Who do "Tommy" in 1969 in front of 200 people…that's how old I am. The version of "8 Miles High" that began acapella was surely heard and appreciated by Gene Clark wherever he is and the opening encore of "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" ROCKED… I am so happy that Gene is being appreciated by a younger audience thanks to Beach House and the others. The musicianship and the singing had a kind of raw, emotional power that's unfortunately becoming rare. I was there Saturday night but I couldn't help thinking that the people lucky enough to attend Sunday night wouldn't be missing much missing The Grammys and I was right, though they could have DVR'd it. My wife fell in love with Hamilton Leithauser but whatever…. even the mixer gets an A+. The sound was PERFECT. Can't these folks go into a great studio and record this for release, preferably to analog tape?
