Van Allen Clinton McCoy (January 6, 1940 -- July 6, 1979) was an accomplished musician, music producer, arranger, songwriter, and orchestra conductor. He is known best for his 1975 internationally successful song "The Hustle", which is still played in dance halls and on radio to this day more than thirty years since his death. He has approximately 700 song copyrights to his credit and is also noted for producing songs for such recording artists as Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Stylistics, Aretha Franklin, Brenda & The Tabulations, David Ruffin, Peaches & Herb, and Stacy Lattisaw.

In 1984, this tune inspired me to create a huge science fiction drawing approximately A2 in size. It was completed in 8 hours. It was a black and white space scene on a distant planet, with an impressive domed city in the background, a gargantuan mothership sized spacecraft on the surface in the foreground, and various vehicles disembarking from it. Up, on a cliff at vantage point from where all this was visible, a male and female Astronaut (he's black) are strolling along, taking in the starry scene above. Yes, there's a black starry sky with distant galaxies and nebulae clearly in view. I called this artwork "Night Walk", as it was totally inspired by THIS very tune! Van McCoy might not have realised it, but he'd created a science fiction theme! My drawing "Night Walk" remains a tribute to Van McCoy's tune of the same name; for without his tune, the drawing wouldn't exist.
