Famous but stupid. As so often with this song, also Lemper does not understand what she is singing. She obviously does even not understand the autor of this song Brecht and his epic theater method. She makes fun out of the deathly killer fantasies of an exploited maid who is not powerful, but suppressed. Her killer fantasies must come quietly, hidden out of her suppression. Ute Lemper did destruct the sense and content of this excellent Brecht song, because she understands nothing of pirate Jenny. She plays against the text and content, because she is too corrupt or dumb to understand it.From wikipedia: Epic theatre (German: episches Theater) was primarily proposed by Bertolt Brecht who suggested that a play should not cause the spectator to identify emotionally with the characters or action before him or her, but should instead provoke rational self-reflection and a critical view of the action on the stage. Brecht thought that the experience of a climactic catharsis of emotion left an audience complacent. Instead, he wanted his audiences to adopt a critical perspective in order to recognise social injustice and exploitation and to be moved to go forth from the theatre and effect change in the world outside. For this purpose, Brecht employed the use of techniques that remind the spectator that the play is a representation of reality and not reality itself. By highlighting the constructed nature of the theatrical event, Brecht hoped to communicate that the audience's reality was equally constructed and, as such, was changeable.

Welcome back everyone! We have Ute Lemper up next with a very famous song from "Three Penny Opera". I do believe she's recorded more Weill as of late, then any other singer. Of course Weill's beloved Lotte Lenya has recorded the most Weill compositions. Next up we have a very happy song, which just has a lilt that counters the last two compositions. I love Ute's purity of voice, and the way she can go back and forth between German, French, English you name it! Arne serve it up now! We have more beer: Kronenbourg weiten stephonerhefwizen! Enjoy your German beer!

Hey Ute. Credit where credit's due. The original Beggar's Opera Brecht based this on is a ballad opera in three acts written in 1728 by John Gay with music arranged by Johann Christoph Pepusch.

+depg1979 She's not lip syncing; they're just cutting between two different nights which gives it that illusion.
