There is a direct relationship between the decline in union membership (8% now vs 30-40% membership in the 50s) and the rise of income inequality. People don't get it, they fall for the bullshit that is spread by greedy corrupt corporations. Our govt doesn't have the balls to tax them at even the 30% that the middle class pays. How many freakin billions do you need when your workers can't afford a modest home or reliable vehicle to get to work?

Democracy is MOB RULE...Think a bit. While "we" are working together, who shall lead?Go seek the Constitution...if you don't like that....seek The Articles of Confederation....if you don't like that seek Iroquois Nations.Wake UP people....just wake up

Your comment is filled with American nationalism. This is not the IWW (the last W) spirit and this is not what Utah Phillips was for. You should seek to abolish taxes and wages, bring down the corporations and government, bring forth a cooperative open-source economy. There is no difference between a worker in a 1st world and a 3rd world country. We live on one planet and your country and it's borders are only in your head.

"get higher wages and benefits at expense of others" What you really mean is higher wages at the expense of the capitalists who want to steal more of their working power. Your comment reeks of a cap doffing attitude, stay in line and don't ask too much from your "betters". Capitalists produce nothing, all value is produced by the workers.

This song is just as relevant in 2013 as it ever was

Bullshit, international solidarity from every worker to every worker no matter what. "An injury to one is an injury to all." I will not see myself have a better standard of living at the expense of a fellow worker across the borders.

Nothing in life is free completely, and we all have to follow laws, so it is an idea that will not work like all ideas like this.

The free market should be a two way street, and workers should have all the rights that business interests have then it would be truly free.

No nobody said that.

Strangely, some people writing comments are proposing that they know better than the rest of us, and that they are against hierarchy...but wish to propose how things should be since they know better than the rest of us. I even gather now that "fair" is not enough, but we must get rid of anyone who earns more than those who complain. Thanks for enlightening me.

Heck, even "A fair day's wage for a fair day's work" would be a step up at the moment.
