bobby hatfield had a little clearer highs than johnny, but from the lows thru midrange, his voice didn't have the warm vibrato that john had.

Bobby Hatfield and johnny Maestro are two vocalists who take Unchained Melody to levels uncontested!

Saw Johnny and the BB on at Wall St and Broad on the steps of the Federal building under the statue of George Washington. It was 1968 or 69. They were having sound equipment problems. Johnny sang without a mic. The power of his voice so fantastic, you could see the crystals on the JP Morgan chandelier shake. Truly a gifted voice. Got to meet Johnny later in life as it turned out his brother-in-law worked with me when we were cops at the old Rahway State Prison. Johnny performed a couple of times at benefit fundraisers for our union, the NJPBA. In person, Johnny was one of the nicest guys you could meet.

Johnny was 68 when he sang this. OK the jury is in. Johnny was the best EVER. Eat your heart out Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee, you should be ashamed for not inducting Johnny by now. And so should you Rolling Stone for not including Johnny in the top 100 vocalists. Now I know where the word 'maestro" came from.

Johnny had an amazing voice. He did not need any instumentals behind him. Like Tony Bennet once said..."Your voice is an instument, you just need to learn how to play it. If anyone has any accapella songs that Johnny did please post them. I will find them. RIP.

it's a biblical 'sin' that Johnny, Neil Sedaka and Paul Anka are NOT in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame...how do these oddball , lousy, loud, screeching bands and screaming singers get inducted?

Seriously??? Three dislikes?? I guess the tone deaf have spoken. This is the only version of this song that I have ever heard that can come close to the late, great Bobby Hatfield. Johnny Maestro IS one of the all time greats - period.

Absolutely stunning! I held my breath as he was approaching that killer note towards the end, but he absolutely slayed it! What an absolute talent he was!
