Album: Stand Up And Fight

Track 3

Lyrics:

Full sails ahead, oceans painted red

When the soldiers of fortune hunt for pirates

No questions asked, we fulfill our task

Tones all turn grey after sunset

Slaying a man, taking what you can

What is right, what is wrong, who can answer?

Sailing the seas, we do just what we please

Emperors, pirates; all cancer

Hoist the sails! - Wipe them out now

Kill them all! - Let them die

Scum they are! - Foe of mankind

Clear the sea! - Show no ruth

We have no choice, it's you who are the bad guys

You've taken it all and yet you still dare to fault

Who are you to judge and condemn us

Underneath the paint your flag is still black

Hoist the sails! - Wipe them out now

Kill them all! - Let them die

Scum they are! - Foe of mankind

Clear the sea! - Show no ruth

Yes we can, and therefore we do so

Please understand, that there's nothing you can do

The world has changed, your justice is outdated

What is right, is what is right for me

Full sails ahead, oceans painted red

When the soldiers of fortune hunt for pirates

No questions asked, we fulfill our task

Tones all turn grey after sunset

Slaying a man, taking what you can

What is right, what is wrong, who can answer?

Sailing the seas, we do just what we please

Emperors, pirates; all cancer

Share the wealth, your holdings should be ours

It's all a smile on our sunny bright kolkhoz

Where's the crime, when no-one's really losing?

Out of cash? Why don't you print some more

Full sails ahead, oceans painted red

When the soldiers of fortune hunt for pirates

No questions asked, we fulfill our task

Tones all turn grey after sunset

Slaying a man, taking what you can

What is right, what is wrong, who can answer?

Sailing the seas, we do just what we please

Emperors, pirates; all cancer

Both we are but selfish chancers

Taking what's there

Not to doubt their military prowess or anything, butit seems to me that the main interest of the Varangians for the greek emperors was that most of these warrios didn't speak greek and therefore would not participate in palace intrigues like greek soldiers would.

Alestorm? I'll put my money on the Varangians. The Varangian guard were the elites of the Byzantine empire, Greeks who regularly rolled out man-portable flamethrowers. They still thought that the group of burly Scandinavians were the elite troop choice. They were regarded as more dangerous than the Jomsvikings, which included Thorkell the tall among its members. The Byzantines were a technological and military super power for their time. The Varangians were essentially their age's super soldier.

@TheTramsmit From my research, from before the movies (Which i didn't really care for, excluding the 4th one, ironically) they had some amount of codes. I think they lay somewhere between bloodthirsty and movie pirates. Personally, I find Captain Blood to be much more epic than Pirates. XD

@irish0dragon0warrior man you have been watching too much Pirates of the Caribbean. Pirates didn't have codes of honour, they just killed and pillaged whenever they pleased.

@00eletricrecord00 I really like the pirate style of music. I had no clue that there was pirate metal. I just recently discovered folk metal and fell in love with it. Most people think that pirates were bloodthirsty monsters, when they really had codes of honor and stuff. I would think that most pirates back then were more honorable than most people are today. (You did have your evil ones, though :) )
