Lyrics:

New friends

Last night

An offer was made

Nordbrikt

Would leave

Five hundred strong

Long is the hour when lying awake

Sleeping his hard when so much is at stake

I've reached my goal, called the final door

Behind it- three doors more

Lying in my bed

Thinking of the things they said

Time is running out

What to do I moon about

Out in the open sea I've swum without a sight

A sight of an opposite shore, a sight of some light

Turning back, staying here, my strength is running out

Forward, or I drown

Rising from my bed

Thinking of the things they said

The moment draws nigh

One chance a year when the water is high

Corridors

I run

Heavy doors

Which one?

Where did I come from? Was I already here?

It all seems familiar, yet I have no idea

New friends

Last night

An offer was made

Nordbrikt

Would leave

Five hundred and one

"Joy and sorrow we have encountered

Always stood as one

Your heart will follow, and maybe tomorrow

You will find what you seek

Go now, and don't look back!

Give my greetings to the Greek King!"

The wind flew the raven banner with pride

Eagles were soaring aloft

Filled with hope and excitement side by side

Five hundred and one cast off

So long is the way to the unknown

Long is the way we have come

At the head of the ships a horn was blown

We sailed off with the morning sun

Five hundred and one

Just hit me... I know the Varangian Way and Stand up and Fight are collectively about a group of Vikings sailing down the Bosphorus to Miklagard, serving in the Varangian Guard and then bolting for home... but this line made something click:The wind flew the raven banner with prideEagles were soaring aloftFilled with hope and excitement side by sideFive hundred and one cast offSo long is the way to the unknownLong is the way we have comeAt the head of the ships a horn was blownWe sailed off with the morning sunFive hundred and oneSo, here me out here:1) Harald Sigurdsson served with the Rus (Russians) as a mercenary. He had under his command "500 Vikings".2) Sometime around 1034, Harald and his men sailed down the Bosphorus to Constantinople ("Miklagard", or modern Istanbul). There he became an officer of the Varangian Guard.3) About ten years later he sought to leave the city. His way was barred by chains. He had all his loot stacked in the rear of the ship and ordered his men to run to the stern, causing the ship to tilt up and ride onto the chain. By rushing the bow, the crew tipped the galley over and they escaped to the open sea.In short, "Harkon the Bastard" who is apparently narrating To Holmgard and Beyond (and presumably the entirety of Varangian Way / Stand Up and Fight) is a Skald of Harald Sigurdsson, King of Norway!Do you know what this all means? It means these Albums aren't just tributes to the Norse, or even to Harald; it's a GENUINE VIKING SAGA updated to the modern style!Turisas, you are FUCKING LEGEND!

I kinda hate Turisas. Mainly because every song they write has one or two verses that are absolutely amazing (The last two, in this case). Nothing's worse than being unable to think of anything but two verses of a single song for a whole day.

Its "Bring my greetings to The Greek King!"

The last part is one of my favorite parts of any song ever. Absolutely incredible. A lot of Turisas songs really have some amazing composition, I feel like they deserve far more attention. Maybe it will be a van gough type thing and they won't be fully appreciated until decades after their deaths.
