Trivium - The State Of Metal Today | MetalHammerTV

Trivium's Matt Heafy knows his shit. Because of this, and because we're exciting about Vengeance Falls landing very soon, we asked him to give us his thoughts on the state of metal in 2013. As ever, his answer was an interesting one.

Vengeance Falls is out October 14 via Roadrunner and, we're presuming, packed with bangers. The album was produced by none other than Disturbed mainman, David Draiman.

Vengeance Falls Track Listing

01. Brave This Storm

02. Vengeance Falls

03. Strife

04. No Way To Heal

05. To Believe

06. At The End Of This War

07. Through Blood And Dirt And Bone

08. Villainy Thrives

09. Incineration: The Broken World

10. Wake (The End Is Nigh)

Growling death metal where you can't tell what they are saying is garbage.

The only good "newer" bands are Starkill and Orpheus Omega in my opinion

Metal is a genre that's been going on for years, most will say it started with Black Sabbath in the late 60s/early 70s. That is a very long time so it's only natural that it's palette will start to run thin as more and more artists explore over time. Which clearly seems to have happened considering the state of metal today, it's like people have just ran out of ideas. There are a shitload of bands now basically doing the same fucking thing as several bands before them already. The deathcore/djent sound is so overdone it is ridiculous.I don't get how someone can say 'yeah we're a new band but we sound exactly like everyone else at the moment', people should at least try to be more creative and stand out from the crowd in some way which I guess explains the people combining metal with other genre's like EDM/dubstep (can sound good if executed properly btw).Basically metal is pretty fucked in some cases as there are just too many damn bands and the cold heart truth is not all of them are going to make it big in such a saturated era.

Matt couldn't have put it any better. Also I think he is the most appropriate person to speak on behalf of metal in 2013/14

No matter what your opinions of Trivium or Matt Heafy are (good or bad) you have to agree with what he's said here. The moral of this whole thing is that we have to stick together! I can't count how many times I've watched a metal music video or anything relating to metal where the commenters spend the whole time fighting over what real metal is. Each side lashing out at each other, calling each other names and honestly believing that their opinions are more factual than the other. It makes me sad. This is just an opinion but I was under the impression that metal was a proud genre with proud fans that came together as a proud family. It's a life style that, like any other life style, should be respected. I think the lethal fanbase of metal is part of the reason why it's dying in America. We just need to learn how to respect each other again! That's just an opinion though lol!

I totally agree with Matt on this. Most bands today just cover and copy new stuff. I like original music and creativity. I am friends with a band that is new to the metal world but very original. Yes their roots are from older metal singers and players but they are making their own music. If you are interested check out Psychoprism. Blow your mind guitars and vocals

I completely agree with Matt, he is a huge influence for me both musically and as a person and i am forming a band with my friends and we're of the same mind as Matt that we're gonna write what we wanna hear so yeah Matt if you see this (however unlikely) then there are kids out there who are taking you up on your request :D

Tbh I didn't know "real" metal meant screaming constantly (don't get me wrong i love death metal, thrash w/e) but "metal" is just heavy music in general, with kick ass music and staying true to lyrical content. These death metal elitists who think the only real metal IS death metal really need a punch in the groin.

Bunch of elitist bullshit , who the fuck wants to rehash "classic bunk" yeah not like being tortured with acdc for 30 years is bad enough now we have bands like airbourne to keep the annoying train Rollin .

Where are the metal bands? Are you kidding me?Periphery, Tesseract, Monuments, Animals As Leaders, After The Burial, Vildhjarta, Circle Of Contempt, Humanity's Last Breath, Intervals, Protest The Hero, Cloudkicker, ChimpSpanner, The Safety Fire, Red Seas Fire, Modern Day Babylon, Chon...etc There is PLENTY out there. The metal scene is incredible right now. This is a mere fraction of the great metal acts we have today. This should be enough to get you started....

Matt is aiming at shit like Pierce The Veil & Of Mice & Men & Bring Me The Horizon & Attila. Those shitty bands who do nothing but write the same lyrics that usually contain thoughts of suicide & have the most annoying voice/scream. They have no raw talent, just looks.

well why not open free music schools just for metal heads, metal music ....I mean the biggest metal bands like trivium metallica iron maiden machine head, etc...are kinda wealthy...so if all wealthy metal bands contributed a small amount of money each.,they could fund and mabe make an apperence themselves,to encourage and help bands progress, into the metal world? of music.....what do you think???.....
