dupstep evolved from garage too though... 2step (type of garage music) and dub sort of merged to create dubstep in the early days... and then it evolved to become shitty skrillex and stuff like that. but garage is the roots of both dubstep and bassline :)

It went underground Garage,Dark Garage, like El-B, UK, then Speed Garage. Then Garage went all Craig David and died. The first track classed as "Bassline" was, Irv Gotti - Down 4 U (D'n'D Conemelt Mix) that came out in 2002 but it wasn't till a few years later that the Bassline sound as you know it took off in a big way. Dubstep is bigger than Bassline ever was, Dubstep sells out 30,000 seater shows and is the biggest EDM sound in the USA. Bassline did ok, but it was never bigger than Dubstep.

"Dubstep from Grime." -_- no actually it is correct to say that dubstep is a directed descendent of garage more specificaly 2 step garage, just like grime, you could consider them part of the same generation, 'step' (haha) siblings would be more accurate, if you where looking at these genres as a family. dubstep's father in this instance would be dub which has nothing to do with grime. your welcome
