Good quality rare video rcorded in the studio on Top Of The Pops 1981. Toyah Ann Willcox (born 18 May 1958 in Kings Heath, Birmingham) is an English actress and singer. Fronting a band known as Toyah, her singing career was slow to take off and the band released six singles in the UK before finally hitting the charts in 1981, with "It's a Mystery". This was followed by several other huge hits including "Thunder In The Mountains" and "I Want to Be Free". These singles were also successful on an international level. In the early eighties, Toyah also had her own successful make-up range called 'Soul Searches'.

In 1982, she was voted Best Female Singer at the British Rock and Pop Awards — since restyled as The BRIT Awards, or "BRITs" — and in 1986 she married UK guitarist Robert Fripp. She was one of the first acts to score regularly in the UK Singles Chart with EPs. Also in 1986, Willcox sang lead on the Tony Banks track "Lion of Symmetry." In 1987 she made the top fifty with her version of "Echo Beach".

Toyah has released 30 albums (both as a solo artist, and part of groups), 22 of which have been studio albums, 7 of which have been UK Top 40 successes. She has had eight UK top 40 singles.

In 2001, Q magazine named Toyah number 48 in their top 100 Greatest Women in Music poll, as voted for by readers of the magazine.

In 2009, Toyah came 7th in a BBC series naming the 'Queens of British Pop,' as voted for by the British Public.

In 2010, Toyah will perform with her band 'The Humans' at the London Roundhouse 'Haiti Earthquake Fundraiser' concert. She will also be performing both as a solo artist and as part of 'The Humans' on various dates.

She currently lives in Evesham, Worcestershire, UK, with her husband Robert Fripp. They married in 1986 in Poole, Dorset. Please visit my other Channel. Keep Rockin!.

I remember this being the lead track on an EP called 'Four More From Toyah'? I think the best song on the EP was 'In The Fairground' - none of the four EP songs made the album 'The Changeling' but I believed may have surfaced on the CD version of the album? 'The Changeling' was an incredible album. It was an incredible time for us who grew up with Toyah

Good Morning Universe - Toyah :- Morning folks. The sun's out and trying its hardest to warm up the day. It's still a tad blustery outside but it's nowhere near as bad as it was yesterday. Hope all is well in your part of the world. I'd also like to give a warm hello to all that have recently circled me. Thank you all very much.

The intro to this is amazing, a great 80's icon, however watching her dance makes me cringe, sorry to hear her mother just passed xoxoxo

The early 80s were such a great period to be a teen, take it from one that was there.

This was the first single I ever bought as a child. I loved the way she looked in the '80s - still think it's a great image.

@harnois75 My thoughts exactly. 1982 is the peak for the Toyah band although I quite like the Pete Bush lineup too. Nothing wrong with the 1981 stuff but I agree things were a little too poppy, especially the singles. It's strange that for the recording of The Changeling (best album :-)) nether Hale nor Lee were present - it was Andy Clarke, Joel Bogen and Simon Darlow. Keith Hale is cool though, his band Blood Donor were pretty good and the rhythm section played on 3 tracks on Sheep Farming.

This was for me the best period for Toyah, after the slightly too commercial Anthem, the band with the line up of Simon Phillips, Phil Spalding, Joel Bogen and Adrian Lee/Keith Hale saw the group at it's most inventive and talented.

Ahh. Look at the audience. So naive! Our Toyah, so bold, avant guarde, way ahead of her time as a performer. Fabulous indeedy! :0)
