- This is a tutorial to help drummers learn the pattern Danny Carey plays at 4:48 on Lateralus (at 168 bpm, it's hard to read in the video).

- If you find this pattern easy, great - this video is not for you. I made it for people who are struggling to learn this part.

- Drum Set info is in my profile.

- Here is a link to download the high quality version of the video:

woh woh wohhhh. How the Hell can the main part be in 9/8, 8/8, 7/4.....that makes no sense. 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 works but not 4..o_O

Im confused. Apparently he plays it in five. But in Meytall's cover, I read a comment saying she was playing it in six...though I can't really hear the difference. I'm certainly not what you'd call a very technical drummer. Help?

Thanks man, trying to play this beat at the min and I don't read music or tabs so watchin you slow it down and explain the timings has helped. Danny Carey is a genius. Good vid.

You're very welcome! I'm glad that you found it useful to figuring out this one. I actually have a Eulogy tutorial too and I have a half-complete Aenima one that I'm hoping to getting around to posting some day.... Take care!

amazing. i never had drum lessons in my life. matter of fact i had like 3 bass lessons when i was about 11 years old, in a tabernacle(they were free lessons) untill i crapped my pants(in a church LOL) i stopped getting lessons but continued to play bass and guitar even to this day, i just have a knack for music i guess so now my next venture is to manage to play some awesome tool parts on drums. Gonna take some serious dedication and videos like this, thank you.
