The beauty of tools music is obviously everything, but that it speaks to everyone a little different (most tool music) and can be interpreted on do many different levels. I've always thought about my drug addictions while listening to this one here. Maybe it had nothing to do with that but to me it does. Tool Maynard had the ability to create this incredible music and connect with all different types of people and make them think for themselves. I know a lot off what tools song mean but even knowing I can still get a different interpretation if I listen to it with an open mind. Maynard is the greatest in my opinion

Song #4 h. By tool. This is pretty much my favorite band due to extremely complicated riffs on the guitar and beats by the drum. They have never made a bad album because they take several years before releasing an album.

It seems like the song is about loving someone so much you are slowly being killed without them.

Considering that members of tool are heavily involved in esoteric orders such as the Golden Dawn and the A.'.A.'., my opinion of what the lyrics mean is this:It's basically about constant rebirth. The oroborous (snake) that eats its tail, constantly creating and destroying itself simultaneously. He also hints at two sides warring against him and each other. This is analogous to ida and pingala recursively surrounding the sushumna, and the caduceus, so its no wonder he chose the imagery of the serpent. The two sides to me represent the shadow and higher selves, but mainly the former as he hints at killing this part of himself and embracing the other to be reborn, and goes on to say this has all happened before, and he will die many more times. Then again, that's the song through my lens, he may not have meant any of that shit :p

you did a great job with the lyrics. to me it is about an addiction and the fear of it. knowing that it might kill you, but its hard to stop.

The beauty of music, is a song can mean different things to different people. Shut the fuck up about what the song really means, and take it in your own way. Its good music, thats all you need to know.
