I think he is referring to a divebar, being the weight that divers use to pull them down to a certain depth... he's walking to the edge of a pier with a weight....

A "dive bar" is basically just a local pub where people go to socialize and forget about the day to day, like Cheers, where everybody knows your name... I think he is refering to using the bars social scene to forget his troubles, essentially knowing it won't make him feel better for long. Regardless, its music so its open for interpretation; and yes he was certainly incredible.
