Before he became "Psycho" Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchocks classic movie, Tony Perkins had a big hit (#24) in 1957 with this version four years before Elvis recorded it for the "Blue Hawaii" movie soundtrack.

He was a well established actor when Hollywood decided to package him as a teenage idol. Hence, he sang "Moonlight Swim." He was never a singer, as evidenced by this song. Fortunately, he was a very talented actor.

This is from my young years ... when music was enjoyable, Still remember the words of most of the songs from those days, they were all about love, romance, friendship .... not about hurting or killing people as they seem to be nowadays.

Anthony (Tony) Perkins' son, Elvis Perkins has established his own impressive track record in recent years with his own band, Elvis Perkins In Dearland. That said, this monster classic by his father is a tough one to beat. Like the late, great Michael Holliday, Tony Perkins had a way with what is called a "quiet intensity", where he draws the listener in and mesmerizes them with his subtle yet very effective delivery. And yes, his labelmate Elvis Presley covered this in 1962 in his honor.

61dodgelancer is right. Tony Perkins released 3 albums, 1. Tony Perkins on Epic in 1957, 2. From My Heart in 1958, 3. On a Rainy Afternoon also in 1958. The latter two were for RCA Victor. He also released 3 singles as Anthony Perkins for Epic in 1956 and 1957 as well as 5 singles for RCA Victor in 1957-1958.

Seem to recall Perkins singing. Thanks for the post. He was a great actor....cannot forget the scene in "Friendly Persuasion" when faced with his first fight, he grips his rifle tightly as his father, played by Gary Cooper, asked whether he was afraid. Reluctantly he says "yes" and old Coop says something like "Good, I don't like to fight beside a person whose afraid to say so" sic. Peace brother. Andy - Singapore

I DID NOT KNOW HE SANG. I'VE SINCE HEARD MANY OF HIS VERY SENSUAL, WELL DONE RECORDINGS INCLUDING, "FRIENDLY PERSUASION", "NE DIS PLU RIEN", AND I THINK, MY FAVORITE, "SUMMERTIME LOVE". I WONDER IF ELVIS RECORDED MOONLIGHT, YEARS LATER, BECAUSE TONY NAME ONE OF HIS BOYS AFTER ELVIS?

Tony has a great baritone voice. *swoon* would've loved to have seen him perform this live.

Great version. In fact, Hank Williams would not have done it better. Overall, it's better than Elvis' and Elvis' was excellent.

@DickCabeza123 Ok, I'm asking why you think it was a shame he was gay? If you were not gay bashing, I apologize for my assumption. So what did you mean?

@DickCabeza123 What does that have to do with anything? If not for gay ppl we wouldn't have an entertainment industry. Gays are in every walk of life, get over it.

No! I tell you no! I won't have you bringing some young girl in for supper! By candlelight, I suppose, in the cheap, erotic fashion of young men with cheap, erotic minds!

A very fine version of one of my favourite songs. Quite surprised that Antony Perkins was a good singer as well as a great actor....
