"Shoppin' From A to Z" is the fourth single by Toni Basil, and the third from her debut album, Word of Mouth. It was released in the US only. After the poor performance of "Nobody" in the UK, there was a lot of dependence on "Shoppin' From A to Z" for its performance in the US. It peaked at #77.

The song features a shopping list consisting of various grocery items, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet. On the album version, it is shouted out by a chorus. However, in the single version this is replaced by comical voices saying the name of each item. 1983 HQ

In the 1968 movie "Head" Toni dances with Davey of the Monkees. Sadly, Mickey from the Monkees was not in that scene.

Just found out that's Fred "Rerun" Berry on this video and Toni Basil was a founder/member of The Lockers dance troupe which Rerun was a part of. Street Dancing/New Wave worlds collide.

i listened to this whole record every day in 82/83. my brother and i thought this was the FUNNIEST song... "X ...NOTHING!" I was 10/11 he was 12/13. HILARIOUS song! Toni Basil is/was actually a choreographer before this, and after. She was also in Easy Rider and Five Easy Pieces with Jack Nicholson. No one could believe she was 40 when this album came out...wish i still had it! peace :)

OMG, thank you for posting this AbercombieGuy94! This totally brings me back to catching this video on MTv when my sister & I were in grade school & we thought it was SO new wave & cutting edge! I still the 45 single on vinyl, but it's pretty beat-up... Been trying to find a copy of THIS version for years, only for the funny voices during the 2nd A-Z list...(not on LP version). I'm shocked to find ANYONE familiar with this song, let alone, the 2 variations! Silly song. Great memories! :)
