I used to listen to an eclectic radio station called KFAT out of Gilroy, CA (garlic capital of the world). They played a unique mix of country, bluegrass, folk, blues, comedy, etc. Very strange station. But it was the best one on the radio in my area. Unfortunately they got sold out and converted to a different format in 1983. The last night they were on the air they had a "wake" and played all of the best songs they had played over the years. The very last song they played was this one, Tom T. Hall's "Last Country Song". "They've broken the last country heart."

Been a Tom T Fan since 1969 and I do not recall ever hearing this song............ so sad and sooooo true for what's been passed off as country music for the last decade (and more) ........... thanks for sharing it!

No, I never even met Tom. I remember my dad telling me stories about growing up with him. They weren't real blood brothers, but dad said he stayed with them a lot and might as well been.

Yup, but they lose. Country is bigger than ever, and not just the new "processed" stuff. Traditional country music, Bluegrass, and Texas Swing ARE the true American voice, and that voice, like America itself, ain't never gonna set down and shut up!
