The chilling aspect of this performance is that previously metaphoric lyrics took on a literal meaning after 9/11. The message of the song changed because of that. I'm not a flag waver, but I felt more American after 9/11 than I ever felt before. It's a strange thing. I suddenly wanted us to show the world just how great we are one way or another when they attacked my home town. I expect people on all sides feel the same way and it is unhealthy. Hey baby, there ain't no easy way out.

Every time they play that bloody Sam Smith song, Tom Petty should get a check in the mail.

*Never Forgetting... Always Remembering*Post-9/11, Tom Petty's first single from 1989's *Full Moon Fever* re-emerged as an American radio staple and mantra for many Americans. Ironically, then-candidate George W. Bush used the song at campaign rallies in 2000 until Petty forced the candidate to discontinue its usage. For that night, and for this concert, it was a perfect choice.#NeverForget #STC #TomPetty #RRHK
