The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect is Todd Rundgren's tenth studio album, released in 1982. The album is a return to the pop sound Rundgren is generally most lauded for by critics. Considering it a contractual obligation, he spent little time working on Tortured Artist (hence the title). However, the album was generally well-received, and Rundgren scored a hit with the novelty song "Bang the Drum All Day".

The album was also his last official release on Bearsville Records.

Man, is this weak; listen to the Small Faces' original for comparison. I guess Todd did all the instruments and vocals but why did he bother?

Masterpiece of a song, but he should've ditched the 'tin' sound in the background for this version. I always thought this let the song down. It irritates, being out of time and not screamingly obvious what they're banging on about, literally.
