Was going to comment, but only repeating 801liveable, Roxy never covered Bowie did they? There is hidden in the vault underneath castle Bowie, recordings of Ladytron and chance meeting etc from just months apart. This is a creditable version by the great man. And it's hard to compare something done nearly 2 decades after the original. But "growing potatoes by the score" in a faux Americanised rock tempo, is uncanny compared to the angst ridden plaintiff call of the younger Ferry vocal.

Bowie knows when he's been bested. The original Roxy version is not only leagues ahead of him, it's leagues ahead of rock music. Period.

Ever since I first heard this I find myself humming pieces of that guitar solo during "Moonage Daydream."

This song rocks, and once again the secret is to pick up the pace, let Reeves Gabrels go wild, and let he melody and rhythm rule over all.

DANCE MAGGOT DANCE! Dance like a maggot on a hook, a faggot on a horse, Bob Saget on a picnic! I love you I need you; I can't live without your abundant attributes, your knockers & gout. There are times I see you as merely a fat goon; And others when I love you like Debby loves Pat Boone.

I don't see the point of taking a great song, stripping out most of the elements that make it great and then putting it through the rock music blender (a tin machine). Removing the reference to climbing mountains and inserting “Come all day”says it all about the wit and imagination of the people behind this cover version.
