during the 80s I thought it was 'der spring' sounds odd but I thought it was a non-sensical song relating to the cold war. 'der spring' might be german for the spring thus the resurrection of life. Germany was divided at the time and was threatened with total destruction being at the fornt of the cold war theater. One of our submarines I had mistaken for 'One of my diamond rings'. Nancy lost one of her diamond rings and a missing submarine was of equal or lesser importance.

I love this song, the very first TD song I ever heard before Ms. Sakamoto! Dolby was the King of MIDI...!!!

From my understanding this is real life non-fictional stuff from the artist real life experiences regarding his father?

Still hauntingly beautiful three decades later and even more poiniant about the unfortunate decline if GB after WW2.

this is one of those songs a video can not do it justice. Definitely takes you to a place of desperation and understanding of what those people went through in ww2. Sad... but need not be forgotten

This song has a sort of desperate melancholy that is uncharacteristic of the high tech genre, a beautiful desperation, other kinds of lyrics would have really worked here.

One of my desert island cd's...."One of our submarines is missing tonight".... lyrics and mood of music always sent my mind to a dark, misty night during WWII and the crew being in danger. My minds visualization and escape to this song is like a great drug.I love the whole "Flat Earth" cd

Thomas Dolby had a sound all his own for the 80's and what a sound it was!! I do so love this song. ツ
