Johnny Mathis goes straight to my heart with the best rendition of this song that I've ever heard. You can purchase this beauty on his CD, "Warm."

That was back when singers had to have an actual voice. No jumping up and down, running back and forthwith their shirts off. Just stand up and sing.

This song makes modern songs look pathetic in comparison. No competition whatsoever.

As a lifelong Mathis fan, I listened to this rendition for the first time today. At the time he recorded this version he still had much to learn about putting a song over. He does not put into this effort anything like he later achieved. To my mind he is just doing a number, over reverberated. Compare Nat King Coles' version for sheer artistry and getting into the feeling of the song. Nat Coles version sounds more heartfelt and polished, and for sheer artistry, it leaves a feeling of enjoyment which is hard to beat.

Have you ever been in love with someone you've never met? Well it happened to me. What a surprise, no, he has no idea and he never will. Why am I telling you this? because Johnny is the cause of it. His voice can make things happen just out of the blue. So you're saying Big Deal, it's only a song. When the music stops, so will everything else. No, the human heart doesn't work that way. When Johnny sings it is magic and something happens without any plans. My feelings hasn't changed. Thank you Johnny. No matter what your age, you still have that magic.

Johnny has been a favorite of mine since I first heard Chances Are in 1957 when I was in the Navy stationed at NATTC Memphis.
