FYI for all you aspiring clarinetists out there, he's on an altissimo A with one hand around 3:15 and then he slides it up from A to B to C for the finish. Amazing chops and at the age of 71, too.

Have you listened to Richard Stolzman? He's more "new age" jazz, and he does a lot of experimenting. Listen to his CD "Brazil" for some sweet, compelling rhythms. And oh, don't stop playing! I've been at the clarinet since I was 9 and now I'm in my 50s. What a great instrument. So glad you're tuned into Goodman.

Interesting statement, thanks. Jazz baroness Nica de Koenigswarter published a book called 'Three Wishes', in which she asked many of her great jazz friends what they would wish for. A surprising number wanted 'to be able to play what I hear inside' (J.J. Johnson, Sonny Rollins etc.) or 'to master my instrument' (Jimmy Garrison, Charlie Rouse, Spanky DeBrest et al). Published 2008 by Harry N. Abrams, NYC.

Dear one the world is waiting for the sunrise Ev'ry rose is covered with dew And while the world is waiting for the sunrise In my heart is calling you Dear one the world is waiting for the sunrise Every little rose bud is covered with dew And my heart is calling for you The thrush on high his sleepy mate is calling And my heart is calling you

Oh, probably not too much doubt there--especially considering his later playing, as in this example. Right on.

THE POINT IS......some say so much more than others. Like Art Tatum,C Parker etc...Benny was just as special ...his statements were magical !
