My dad was abusive, when my mom finally left him we were living below the poverty line and we did for a long time. My dad wouldn't pay child support or anything to help us out. I have two younger brothers and we needed the money for food and clothing. We went without new clothes for years and I didn't get a new pair of shoes for two of them. This song touches me deeply, and oddly enough I had heard this song long before this happened to us.

Remember the year of beans and dried milk from a train crash. Uncle Ernie got it for us. Don't know if we would have made it without the beans and dried milk. Times were tough for some of us.

I met an airman at the base in Rapid City. He said his mom had a soupstone. If you read this, thanks for letting me use your car to get my S. D. drivers license after mine was revoked in Pa. for 30 days. There was that loophole in the law in the early 70's. I already thanked John for turning me on to Hook.

Gullig historia, något liknande "koka soppa på en spik". Aldrig hört låten förut.

I first heard this tune when I was 7 years old. I am now getting on in years and this song still drifted cross my mind. The saddest thing is almost no one knows who Dr. Hook is and of those I've spoken to who do know them usually say something like "Who?" or "Dr. Hook?...uhh, Oh, WOW! I haven't heard that name in YEARS" and even ""HUH? Uhh, I seem to remember, name a song...." Fucking sad. 4 billion years of evolutionary and we FUCKING STILL CAN'T act like it!

Nice, unfortunatley i haven't put up any more songs of Dr.Hook or Shel. Most of them can already be found. Just loved this and thought it would be nice to share it.

Shel's best was SLOPPY SECONDS. Dr Hook's secod album. BELLY UP was #3, then they all split---which was the end for Dr Hook's big time.

I used to listen to this song when I was a kid. It still brings up emotions today. I recently wrote a story on my blog with a link to this song.

some amazing music has slipped away with time, it's sad to see some of the music today's generation is going to remember, As for me I'm glad my mother kept this band and many other's alive for me to enjoy them.
