This is Track 02 of the Who's album - Who's next. The most electrifying of at least nine differetn takes, recorded at Olympic on April 12, and June 5, 18 & 19, 1971. Pete's lead guitar was played on a vintage Gretsch gifted by Joe Walsh. Played at the Young Vic shows and long retained in the stage act.

One of my favorite songs. Hard to follow, due to its indirectness. Moon the Loon does the DRUMS like no body can. Forget the keyboarder, they can't follow the singer like Keith does on the drums. The song is a bargain, it is free, and it is your choice.

doesn't sound like a bargain to me. Sounds like low self esteem.

Show me a better drummer and I will say "You're FUCKED!"

If you listen carefully, "Best I Ever Had" doesn't mean what that phrase usually means. Boy, these guys could play.

Great contrast to Roger's voice when Pete sings the interlude.

It doesn't get much better than this, timeless... glorious work of uncompromising passion and mastery. Long live the Who.

My husband Tom asked me to listen to this song. Says it all.

The classic Fender Precision Bass/Rotosound strings combination. Entwistle had a clean sound with lenty of sustain.

One thing Townsend and company would never have to do was die as unsung men...maybe you don't feel so blessed. No matter, find the purpose that's greater than all the drives of fame, fortune and fullness, and wrap them all up in a newspaper. Light it on fire...fulfill that purpose and it will be the greatest bargain you ever had.

Nothing like standing naked, stoned and sad...and calling it a bargain

Hey Korinne, considering what this song is about....I find your comment to be sad. I guess you choose to be an unenlightened being that revels in material things. That's something to be proud of....I guess....
