Very appropriate song, my uncle served as did my grandfather an one of my friends at times when I see them they appear larger than what they are, and worn, it like this sensation that when I stand next to them there is no one else I would entrust my back to in a fight. If that is what it's like to be next to a hero then yes, they are heroes.

I believe that when most American's use the word "Heroes", they are referring to the soldiers who have come home from the most recent of wars. The Vietnam Vet's never received the homecoming or adulation they deserved. They were insulted and spat upon. They did what their country asked of them and if they were lucky, they made it home just to be blamed and chastised for a conflict that was completely out of their hands and it was a shameful expression of gratitude which I know that many have not forgotten. The wrong people were spat upon. Our government should never send young men or women into any war or conflict that they aren't willing to send their own son's or daughters into. This is strictly my personal opinion and if you have a differing opinion, I can respect that and I ask that you do the same. Lastly, the second group that should be included under this huge umbrella of the people that are heroes, are the wives of the men who stayed home to hold down the fort, raise the children and pretty much everything else that was required of them while there husbands were gone. My mother was in the Navy back in the 50's. After she got out, she did the same thing as all the other wives of these servicemen while my dad was gone. She waited, worried and took care of everything that required her attention, which was pretty much everything and mom did one hell of a great job of it. She never let her children see her worry. We were to young to understand it so she simply carried all the weight and allowed us to be children. She truly was a hero. We just weren't aware of it at the time. RIP mom and dad.

Your words are a welcome oasis. I've been sad all evening so it's wonderful to hear someone from another country have kind words for America. We don't get that too often. Thank you...
