Fucking nailed it! It's like the perfect marriage between Dylan and Tom Waits... Breathtaking.

Just saw them again Friday and he sounded great. I have seen him sound a little raspy like this before though. What sets the walkmen apart is how they induce real emotion with almost every song with music and lyrics. That's what I've realized makes music timeless. Some catchy tempo and b.s. lyrics can make a good song, but it gets played out and you don't find yourself returning to it eventually. I can see myself listening to this shit for f$%king ever.

I have a real love-hate relationship with this song. I love it because it's awesome, and I hate it because I can't sing along to it! Ham's range is still downright enviable, even if he can't belt it out to the same degree anymore.

Eh my comment was harmless. I'm actually a huge fan of Ham and his voice. It brings a sense of urgency to their music. The band's just great too. They're one of the few in the last 10 years to keep putting out quality albums. Even as their sound has gotten more light and calm in the last few years they still pack quite a punch. Definitely wearing out Heaven at the moment.

that's a bit too violent of an analogy. he has presence and incredible delivery though

"portrayed better than" I mean. I saw them with my now fiancee at the Blue Note in Columbia, Missouri last year. They were supporting The New Pornographers, and they just made them look stupid. Brought the damn house down. Gee can you tell I'm a fan?

Hamilton Liethauser has the kind of voice that picks you up by the scruff of the neck, slams you hard against a concrete wall. takes all your money, then drops you and kicks your head in repeatedly, and all you can do at the end is say "Thank you. That was the greatest experience of my life." No where else is that portrayed in this particular version of this song. His voice is quite simply lethal.

If you dig the walkmen - hunt down "Jonathan Fire*Eater" - same band w/ a different lead singer. Great song writing - well worth the effort.
