John Peel's favourite ever song and not hard to understand why. Timeless teenage frustration in 2 and a half minutes of raucous pop punk heaven. Play it loud and feel free to pogo -- you know you want to.

Just come here from watching 'My perfect cousin', which I've never seen before and is just great .... it could have been a Kinks' number. Love the contrasts between these two videos, which I'm going to describe as I see it even if I'm totally wrong. In the first, they are pinched and starving, and just full of energy and messing around in a front of a camera with some lads. Great fun. In this one, they are older and hopefully better fed, are wearing more expensive clobber and have slightly better kit. Their attitude has gone from edgy to insouciant, but that's not a criticism - 'Teenage Kicks' makes me stop and listen every time, and sometimes makes me both happy and sad. It's a teenage anthem (I am very far from being a teenager!) and it brings to mind John Peel, whom I miss on a regular basis. Goddam.

Sorry- my comment related to a different song from 1980 or 81. Teenage Kicks as seen here is not from Irving Plaza.

I was at this show- was in 1980 or 81 at Irving Plaza, New York City. It may be best show I have ever seen- cannot forget their unpretentious dress-Sharkey's orange plaid shirt- and attitudes, and Sharkey's chain smoking. It was like a machine gun- no breaks between songs...they just kept coming one song after another. We drank cups of beer- had great time. I guess you cannot smoke inside anymore. I would buy the concert DVD if it was available.
