Too bad the sound quality is so muddy -- fault of the master, I'm sure! I put this version, the Monkees' and a snathc of Carole King's demo in my Turtles playlist. Thanks

In Holland it was a small hit in the sixties for Dave Berry ("This Strange effect", "The crying game" etc), but I agree. Unbelievable that this song wasn't a world wide smash.

WOW, you sure said so much in so few words! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts so well. This song is so much better than some of the other singles that the group released and what a shame that it was not one of their biggest hits. It sure deserves to be heard and thanks to YouTube and posters like Allen Dunn, we get to hear these virtually unknown gems over and over online.

It definitely is one of their best songs. Listen to the harmonies in the chorus. This is how you make a great song a superb song!

I bought this vinyl a few days ago. I would never have heard this song otherwise. It's so gorgeous, why wasn't it more famous?!

It's been said that this was "Unfinished" because there was supposed to be strings added to it,but was shelved until the "Golden Hits" Lp,issued in 1967....it was the final "B" side to their final White Whale 45,issued in 1971.

@musicaldun1 Totally agree with you. One of the best bands who were musically ignored.

@musicaldun1 Thanks for sharing more interesting Turtles thoughts. Sure glad you love 'Is It Any Wonder?' as much as I do. I didn't know that Flo and Eddie were with the Mothers for awhile. That sure must have been odd. Your Flo and Eddie concert seemed like alot of fun, too. I sure would have loved to ask the guys a couple of questions about their songs, esp. the rare ones. I also saw the guys in 1986 at Lake Tahoe and they put on a good show with their backup band. Long live the Turtles!

@musicaldun1 Also check out on YouTube the Turtles' 'Is It Any Wonder?' which was an AWESOME song that was both a "hit" and an "obscurity" at the same time!! Huhh???? Read my comments for that song and you will understand more what I mean.

@musicaldun1 Thanks for your reply and I also agree with your thoughts completely! Yes, the Turtles were underrated after their popularity waned but Howard and the other guy later toured as Flo and Eddie with some success and I think they were part of the earlier 'Happy Together' tours with other groups. That song ('Happy Together') was the group's "signature song" but they also had many other great singles like 'You Told Me' which has the same 'eerie' good feeling like 'So Goes Love'.

@unclebone100 I completely agree with everything you said. They were a very underrated band whose non-hits are virtually unknown. I've called this song 'haunting' before...'bout the same as 'eerie'. It's also a very well recorded track.

This song could have easily been released as a single in place of one or two of the other Turtle songs that were released as singles. I love the harmonies and background instrumentation of this song. Has sort of an eerie feel when you listen to it but I mean that in a good way. The Turtles were one of the BIG reasons that the second half of the 60's rock music scene was as great as the first half.
