Hank Medress Was A Teenager In Brooklyn, NY, When He Started A Vocal Quartet In 1955 With Neil Sedaka. The Group's Original Name Was The Linc-Tones, After Their School, Lincoln High School. Sedaka Left For A Solo Career, And Lead Singer Jay Siegel Joined Brothers Mitch Margo and Phil Margo and Medress To Become The Tokens. In Early 1961, The Tokens Released "Tonight I Fell In Love," Which Scored #15 On The Billboard Hot 100 Chart And Earned Them An Opportunity To Perform On The Television Program "American Bandstand". Their Next Single, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" Reached #1 On The Billboard Hot 100 Chart And Peaked At #11 in the UK In That Same Year. From 1962 to 1970, The Tokens Released Nine More Songs That Made The Top 100....All On Their Own Record Label Called "B.T. Puppy" Records. Jay Siegel Was The Lead Vocalist On All The Tokens Hits Including Our Featured Song, A #30 Hit From 1966 Called "I Hear Trumpets Blow". Hank Medress Became The Producer On The Chiffons' Hits "He's So Fine" and "One Fine Day". After Leaving The Tokens, Medress Produced A Record Company Executive Named Tony Orlando. He Persuaded Orlando To Sing The Lead Vocal On "Candida", A Hit For His Group "Dawn" That Helped Make Orlando An Overnight Star.

Hi Mike Just heard your channel for the first time and instantly subscribed. I had many 45's that were gone when I returned from overseas. One was a little known song by the TOKENS called "He's back in town". If you own this, could you put up a clip?? Thanks again for the good tunes and GREAT background info.

Nice job, where did all the years go? Last time I heard this, I was in 8th grade!

Happy, happy, feelgood song--a much bigger hit in Toronto, Canada where it went as high as #6. Only got to #30 on Billboard, #28 on Record World and no better than #40 on Cashbox. Deserved much better. You never hear it played as an oldie.

This is one of my all time favorites! Thanks,Mike. By the way, keep doing the vocal intros; that's what makes your videos so good! Is that a new Pickering cartridge, too? The other thing is I noticed we were in 2102 at Music Mike productions. Did I miss a few years of your videos? Take care !

It wouldn't been the greatest name of a recording act EVER if it was 5 black guys instead of 5 white guys.
