Track 4 side 2 from the 1972 Jimmy Webb album. Possibly my most favourite of all Supremes recordings - Jean is given a free hand on these sessions and scores top marks with each song. I especially love the way she handles this song - originally recorded by the Ronnettes and written by Lynda's late friend Harry Nilsson. Too bad Motown used the ridiculous dandelion sunrise shot for the cover - bad move and I, for one was really pissed that we didn't get as great a cover shot as they did for Floy Joy - after all, it was the same photographer that did both shoots!

Beautiful recording! Thanks for posting it. The Supremes post-Diana Ross were sadly overlooked. They did fine work but were sadly ignored by record buyers.

@SinclairisCool Cindy wasn't there, it was Lynda on every track with Mary doing the bv's. Jimmy Webb added more singers for the backgrounds to 'fill out' the sound. Lynda later recalled that she, Jean & Mary, could have done all the vocals and still achieve the same sound by multi-tracking their backgrounds but hey, it is waht it is and will always be one of my favourite LP's. Jean is phenominal on this project.

@ivyfield : i was there, also - it was ALL of their last performances as supremes. mary & diana prevailed upon berry to retire the group; not having the trademark has no bearing on the fact that she & ross requested for berry to end the supremes.

Mary didn't retire the group. She'd already left! I saw her last performance as a Supreme. Check her book. Motown decided to retire the group, Mary didn't have a say in the matter as she didn't own the trademark and still doesn't.

@JumpStreet1983 : sooo, that's why scherrie has been a member of scherrie & lynda: former supremes for what? 23 years now? i guess you're right - scherrie doesn't have the group mentality...LOL!!!!! had mary not retired the group, i think scherrie would be touring & recording as a supreme today!!

@atomicgdogg6 - certainly is! well, mary, jean & lynda - cindy isn't on here, contrary to rumor. there are, however, several other ladies, & that's what makes the "choir effect". would've been great had jimmy overdubbed the supremes to achieve the same effect, but perhaps the technology wasn't really there then. i somewhat question that, tho' as phil spector had been doing his "wall of sound" several years earlier...
