Yes, this was mid college years and how fine the album was (Brave New World). Saw the band in Atlanta this past June 2014 and Journey (and Tower of Power) outdoors. They were all magnificent live.

My favorite Steve Miller song. Used to play it over and over in college.

Another example of a band that lost its way. These songs were so original and lovingly arranged. A few years later, they (or mostly Steve) were just playing basic rockin' blues riffs with a bunch of ego for lyrics (the Joker? What a joke). After they made that turn, they were Frat party faves.

And I love all the admiration people are expressing for this band and such, No slurs or f-bombs...just love.

I love the contrast from early to late, early was hippie and less yuppie!

Respectfully Tim, Opinions are personal, Boz may disagree. But I agree

Lonnie was a great bass player, as is Gerald Johnson.

I disagree with Fly Like An Eagle to a point..the original version from 1968[Midnite Special] was awesome...then they commercially marketed it in a 3 minute version for radio..so your half right...Listen to Born To Be Blue...he surely kept his blues influence alive, even though the album was rarely heard...

They were at their best when Boz Scags was in the band and sharing the singing. Tasty!

A beautiful song from their third album. Especially the guitar work at the end. Unfortunately it was the last album from their early, bluesy phase. They started getting more commercial and less innovative after this. "Fly Like an Eagle" may have been their biggest hit but it was also one of the worst songs they ever did. Things really went downhil with them after Boz Scaggs left the group.
