Lyrics:

The greatest Christmas present

Is something you cant buy

When World War 2 was over

We trimmed the tree alone,

But we saved the star for Daddy

Cause Daddy was coming home

We bought Momma a new dress

We bought Daddy a tie,

But he brought us each something

That money couldnt buy

The greatest christmas present

Is something you cant buy

Ive talked to Pa this evening

For an hour on the phone

He said dont spend a lot on presents (now son dont you spend a lot on presents)

We just want you to come on home (you know all me and Momma want is you all to come on home)

But well buy Momma a new dress

And Daddy another tie

And well spend lots of time together

And thats something you cant buy

The greatest Christmas present

Is something you cant buy

Some day I know its coming

When all of us wont be

Together there for Christmas (I hate to face it but we wont always be together for christmas)

You know Daddys seventy-three (it seems hard to believe but your daddy will turn seventy-three)

And to pay back all he gave me

I cant but I will try

Ill pass along to my kids

Something they cant buy

The greatest Christmas present

Is something you cant buy

My sons grew up listening to the complete album. I did not think they were paying attention. However, now they both have their own families. A few years back the oldest asked me where the tape was. I got it for him. He took it and made everybody a CD. They both said that was Christmas to them........a tradition for us now that was started many years ago. Thank you Statler Bros.

After you have lost your parents this one hits close to home. Had an uncle killed during the Battle of the Bulge and another wounded several times in the ETO. I just can't imagine what is was like to have been aroun during that horrible war.

First time in 10 years I have been able to listen to these god sent voices. Thanks for posting it, and Thank You Statler Brothers for the best songs ever. And to my Dad, your voice is no longer with us, but I can still hear you singing along with your favorite group :) May everyone have a peaceful Christmas

Great Song, I can only imagine the joy of Christmas 1945, the war was over and the soldiers were coming home. I lost an Uncle 1-15-45 during the Battle of the Bulge. 20 years old.

Both of my parents, my inlaws and my husband have passed. Christmas brings so many happy memories, but also a great sense of loss. This is one song that will always bring memories back.
