The Song Is Over by The Who, 1971

"The Song Is Over" was to be the finale to the Lifehouse movie, beginning as Bobby and the crowd vanish and continuing through the end credits.

The song quotes from "Pure and Easy" in its final bars, and from a 1967 song called "Party Piece for Rael" which Townshend wrote for his never-finished rock opera Rael.

Pete Townshend's original demo was released on his 1999 solo album Lifehouse Chronicles.

This is the best song ever by The Who IMHO. .....Do any of you remember the excellent TNT tv movie in 2002 called "Monday Night Mayhem?" It was a true story of the history of Monday Night Football on ABC. This song was used to close the movie as Howard Cosell and his wife leave an ABC party and go back to their hotel. It gave a PS about where Keith Jackson, Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, Roone Arledge, and Chet Forte ended up.

This song regardless of how good it is.......... it is so depressing. Some songs remind you of a time. It very much has a 60's sound to it........ kind of a concert hall sound.

The irony, " this song is over" as the opening line. Still love this band.

Kudos to Nicky Hopkins who gave such grace and melancholy to this song. His piano playing is stellar.
