Ha, it's like a lullaby. Putting me into a sleepy coma. Also I get the overwhelming sense that our narrator is really not that bothered about his girlfriend being in a coma. He's not wanting even to see her. And he say's nothing very much about sadness just that I would hate anything to happen to her. Now I listen to the lyrics with this in mind it all sounds pretty sarcastic and celebratory.

Just been browsing the comments. Hmm. It seems that many people - including fans of the group - persist with the cliched idea that The Smiths were a rather depressing bunch. Utter nonsense. Ignore the deceptive title... just listen to those lyrics. They're bloody hilarious! If Morrissey's tongue was any further in his cheek he would pierce the skin. Sure, they could get dark ("I Know It's Over", "Asleep" etc) but most of their output is oozing with humour. Pitch black humour, admittedly, but humour all the same.
