"The Sidewalk Song" was written by songwriter/producer & arranger Jimmy Webb for Johnny Rivers in 1967 which appeared on his "Rewind" album. Richard Harris, with the guidance of Jimmy Webb, recorded "The Sidewalk Song" for inclusion on his 1971 album, "My Boy" and shined on telling the story of the lyrics with emotion unlike any before.

Nice job, but not, in my judgment, as good as Johnny Rivers. I believe JR to be the best interpreter of Jimmy Webb's music (including Glen Campbell).

You're talking to one. I saw him live when I was still in high school. Early seventies. I was totally in love with him...still am.

My album collection in high school consisted of everything I could get my hands on by Richard Harris, Leonard Cohen and Grace Slick. I still never get tired of them. If anyone is new to Richard Harris, look up Watermark, A Tramp Shining and One Of The Nicer Things. And to give kudos to Jimmy Webb, check out Wichita Lineman and If You See Me Getting Smaller, I'm Leaving.

A true legand,I know that word gets tossed around a little to much , but this man could get a point across with his soulful voice, that seemed to get life sorted, his part in that indian movie gave me a lesson of humananity, I remember now, a man called horse, his Jimmy webb song, Mc Arthers park is probably the best poetic love song ever..I would like to talk to other like minded people.

He must have lived close by to Beth- as '47 cracks in the sidewalk' seems very few- the Council near me have a lot to answer for as there seems to be 47 cracks every few feet on the pavement ! Seriously though, this is a fab song- I have the vinyl and cherish it greatly- thanks for posting.

I just came across this .. Sent tingles down my spine . His voice is at once so soft gentle and amazing masculine. I'm right back in the 70s when I first heard it. Thank you.

This song came on my Barbra Streisand station on Pandora over the summer and I fell in love with it..I could feel the emotion in every word..and It put me through the emotions one might have when they have unrequited love..RIP Richard
