a very good friend of mine, R.I.P. RAYMOND, sang this song to me when I was a very young boy when my father was ill and in a V.A. hospital. he was the father I needed when my own dad couldn't be there. trust me he wanted to be. this song will always have a special place in my heart along with you Raymond. to my father and to Raymond, rest well. ill see you both again.

James scanlan-- You confuse fascism with dictatorship. They are not necessarily the same. Stalin proved you can be a communist and be a dictator. This perspective is rather simplistic. It's as silly as thinking if you are anti Capitalism that makes you a Communist. This irrational perspective is promoted and used to keep people from recognizing that we do not have to have either. We do not have to chose the lesser of two evils because which one is the lesser fluctuates with the times. That oppression and dysfunction can hide and exist in any system irrespective of what it calls itself.

Evil acts can be committed by any group of people irrespective of what ideology they label themselves to be under. Those acts are usually reactionary and justified by the focusing on evil acts committed by those we oppose which are then also used to rationalize and justify our own.evil.

There's something seriously wrong with the world when Australians can breathe more life into one of our great patriotic songs than we Americans can! All the same, Judith and the boys are always a pleasure to listen to

Like Cass Elliott, Judith Durham didn't seem to SEEK to stand out from the ensemble, but it was simply the nature of their "instruments" (i. e. their vocal chords) that made them "rise above the crowd", so to speak. A blessing, it seems to me, for us to have been able to hear talents such as these.

Possibly for the same reason we sang Waltzing Matilda in elementary school here in the US. I guess we're trading the commonness of our cultures and sharing in the joys of the best of folk music.

The Seekers are quite possibly my favourite music group / band. It's definitely my mother's favourite and I grew up hearing their music a lot, particularly from my mother and aunts singing their songs to us (Morningtown Ride is a favourite). I love folk pop music. But one thing about this song, though... I've never understood why an Australian group would be singing about the US like this...
