Etta Jones was, quite simply, one of the greatest singers of all-time. The fact that she just so happened to sing jazz and the blues was besides the point. Ms. Jones could sing ANYTHING. She had an affinity for jazz and an ability to remind listeners of Billie Holiday, not by imitating [although she could, when she wanted to, sound nearly exactly like Lady Day] the jazz diva but by capturing Holiday's spirit and channeling it through her own voice. Etta was special. Here she sings a song most closely associated with Frank Sinatra and delivers a perfomance that I'd be willing to bet that the Chairman would have approved of. She is accompanied so well by her longtime musical partner, Houston Person, on tenor sax. This song was never perfomed better.
