It seems more than a dancers und prayer live preformance similar to a musical clock ballett. i remember a flair of musical concrete like the 70ties music art with mechanical orchestra. saw the residents live with the old set and with artist sisters, but i also love their album "god in three persons", it was a fine feeling of new begining after eskimo close some circles and opened the minds for more cultur minting and more collab with resident sisters.

When I was in grad school, an anthropology professor showed video of mummers in Newfoundland. They engaged in "ingressive" speaking--that is, vocalizing when inhaling instead of when exhaling. (Try it - it's hard to describe but easy to do, if not loudly.) I don't know if the Residents heard mumming in Louisiana, but this is what I would imagine singing ingressively would sound like.
